Proofpoint Email DLP is an advanced Data Loss Prevention solution that analyzes outgoing (and optionally incoming) messages to prevent accidental or intentional leakage of sensitive data. The system works based on content classification mechanisms, patterns (regex, tokenization), and integrates with the Proofpoint Intelligent Classification database, which uses machine learning (ML) for contextual data recognition.
The solution allows you to create granular policies based on message content, attachments, metadata, user classification (e.g., HR, finance), and behavior. It supports over 80 compliance templates (GDPR, HIPAA, GLBA, PCI-DSS, FERPA) and allows you to create your own rules and exceptions.
The system can alert, block, encrypt, redirect for review, or quarantine messages. Proofpoint DLP also integrates with Proofpoint Encryption and Threat Response Auto-Pull, allowing you to remove messages that have already been delivered to recipients’ systems.
