Gigamon is a comprehensive platform offering solutions designed to replicate, aggregate, filter, and optimize network traffic in order to increase the effectiveness of analytical, monitoring, and security tools. Gigamon solutions are available as physical GigaVUE Appliances (HC Series, Network Taps, Traffic Aggregators) or as software GigaVUE Cloud Suite for virtual or cloud environments (V Series) and container environments (Universal Cloud Tap-Container). Gigamon’s broad spectrum of solutions enables organizations to gain complete visibility across all areas of their infrastructure, from physical to cloud and virtual to container, without impacting the performance and availability of production systems.
Gigamon also offers the option of installing physical devices in inline mode to build a security chain. The inline functionality also allows you to obtain a copy of the traffic in a secure manner by using the bypass function in the event of a power failure, so that live traffic will continue to flow through the Gigamon device.
The GigaSMART feature set enables traffic optimization up to layer 7 of the ISO/OSI model, which significantly increases the efficiency of end-user tools. The GigaSMART feature set is available in the HC series solution through the use of a dedicated physical GigaSMART engine or in the virtual V series solution, allowing for highly granular traffic optimization regardless of the observed environment.
Acting as an intermediary, Gigamon obtains copies of traffic from multiple points in the infrastructure using SPAN applications from network tools or dedicated TAP points, and then redirects them to the appropriate security or analysis solutions, filtering and optimizing the data on the fly. The data can be subjected to, for example, deduplication, header removal, metadata generation using NetFlow/IPFIX, or optimization based on the detected application (ISO/OSI layer 7).
